The starter’s gun has sounded for the frenzy that will be the 2011 NFL free agency period/preseason. Yes, both summer activities are being rolled into one fun ball this year thanks to the lockout, which ended on Monday after months of contentious negotiations. Now, the Chargers front office must emerge from its stasis and deal with a raft full of unrestricted free agents, rookie signings and roster moves.

619 Sports’ Dan McLellan was at Chargers Park for the first day of activity and then called in to Craig for their first of many Chargers podcasts this season. In this edition, we discuss:

  • Vincent Jackson’s plan to sign a franchise tender and A.J. Smith’s comments tweaking him in the newspaper
  • Which unrestricted free agents the Chargers can least afford to lose
  • If money would be better spent on resigning right tackle Jeromey Clary or going after free agent wide receiver Steve Smith
  • And more

Our Chargers coverage is just getting started…and away we go!!
