Ever since the LA City Council voted unanimously to approve the outlines of a new stadium deal with AEG, I’ve had the dread feeling brewing in the pit of my stomach that the San Diego Chargers are soon to be no more.  After all, there are many sound economic reasons for the Chargers to pack up and move north, and many fewer obstacles seemingly standing in the way than ever before. Meanwhile, in the city of San Diego, mayor Jerry Sanders has started his move toward an endgame, vowing to put a proposal on the November 2012 ballot for a new downtown football stadium in San Diego.

To try and make sense of all the latest developments, Dan McLellan joined me in studio for the latest edition of the 619Sports.Net Chargers podcast. We are joined on the phone by special guest Matthew T. Hall, who has been on the Chargers’ stadium beat for months, compiling the Chargers Stadium Search Week in Review posts for signonsandiego.com.  We hit on as many key topics as 35 minutes will allow, including:

  • If Mayor Sanders’ three-city tour was political posturing or a relevant fact-finding mission
  • How the multi-county stadium deals in Denver and Indianapolis would have a hard time taking root in San Diego
  • What to make of Mark Fabiani’s latest comments regarding LA, and Mike Aguirre
  • If it doesn’t make the most sense financially for the Chargers to leave town
  • And much more
