Chargers: Ready Or Not, Here They Come

The final score on Thursday night was San Francisco 20, San Diego 17. As quickly forgotten as it was played, the Chargers’ final preseason game offered only brief glimpses of players who will impact the team this season. Ryan Mathews made a good impression with a 56 yard touchdown run, but also missed a critical block which led to a sack and turnover. The members of the first-string defense who played got pushed right down the field on a 14-play drive by an underwhelming and only partially staffed Niners offense. Much of the second half was played by guys who will be updating their resumes come Saturday night.

But for a select few players, Thursday’s game was all-important. Wide receivers Richard Goodman, Seji Ajirotutu and Bryan Walters are all battling for one of the last roster spots on the regular season squad. Battles at reserve linebacker are just as intense. The Chargers must cut an 80-man roster down to 53 on Saturday, and those on the bubble desperately needed to make a good last impression.

Below, Craig and Dan recap the night’s action and look ahead to the regular season opener against Minnesota on September 11th in their latest video field report:

(Dan would like to apologize for his ridiculously askew tie, he forgot people can actually see him when he’s on video.)
