Jake Peavy was traded to the Chicago White Sox Friday afternoon for a quartet of young pitchers, headlined by Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda.  Craig and Chris discuss the deal and what it means for the Padres:

    If the padres rebuild successfully and contend soon, they will lack a legit #1 guy to compete with the dodgers... This is why they never actually try to win championships, instead they just want to "compete" ....
  • This is not a sad day in Padres history......if they use the $$$ savings to sign their June draft picks and possibly to throw at Adrian. If Donavan Tate attends classes at NC however, Moorad must be burned in effigy. They have no excuse to not get it done.

    It is sad we won't see the day when we match up Peavy and Latos against Caine and Lincecum or Billingsley and Kershaw. The economic boost provided by the ballpark was supposed to stop trades like this. I have no problem with avoiding the premium free agents. They are too expensive and have shown that they don't pay off more often than not. The Rays, Twins, and others show that you can be very successful without them. But we should be able to keep our own. Let's hope this is just a hiccup in the transition from Moores to Moorad.
