Kiko Garcia homered in the loss for Park View

The Blue Bombers of the Park View Little League found out what it was like to taste their own medicine.  In a game played only for seeding in the championship bracket, the Little Leaguers from San Antonio, Texas used a pair of two-run homers and some outstanding defense to hand Chula Vista their first loss of the Little League World Series, 6-3 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The PVLL squad started in typical fashion, with Kiko Garcia blasting a two-run homer to deep center field, his 14th homerun in 27 at-bats dating back to regional play.  Seth Godfrey made the lead stand up on the mound until the 3rd, when San Antonio’s Drew Brooks laced a triple down the first-base line to tie the game at two.  Travis Dayes followed with a towering blast to center for a two-run homer, and for the first time in Williamsport, Park View was trailing, 4-2.

An Andy Rios RBI single in the 4th made it 4-3, but then the San Antonio defense kicked into gear.  In the fifth, Texas turned a splendid 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.  In the 6th, Wyatt Willis roped a two-run homer that bounced off the center-field fence and over, making it a 6-3 game.  The Park View kids were shut down in the 6th and fell to 2-1 in pool play.

While the loss sets up a date with undefeated Warner Robbins, Georgia in the USA semifinals, it was not a deal-breaker for Chula Vista, as the tournament now begins in earnest.  The Blue Bombers will face Georgia in an elimination semifinal on Thursday, with the winner advancing to the USA finals on Saturday.
