Prep Top 10: Little Change At The Top

by Craig on September 9, 2009

Heading into week 2 of the prep football season, the top 3 remain unchanged in the NC Times Sportswriters/Sportscasters Prep Football Poll.  Oceanside picked up an extra first-place vote, so now there is just one holdout for LCC.  Vista rose a spot and Carlsbad dropped out after losing their opener on a bad snap. The poll (with first-place votes in parentheses):

  1. Oceanside, 1-0 (18) beat Reed (Sparks, NV) 31-13
  2. La Costa Canyon, 1-0 (1) beat Salinas, CA 54-20
  3. Escondido, 1-0 beat Calexico 79-0
  4. Vista, 1-0 beat Mira Mesa 35-7
  5. Helix, 1-0 beat Rancho Buena Vista 23-19
  6. Cathedral Catholic, 1-0 beat Steele Canyon 27-7
  7. Eastlake, 0-0-1, tied Moorpark 20-20
  8. Valley Center, 1-0 beat San Pasqual 38-6
  9. Scripps Ranch, 1-0 beat Poway 37-14
  10. Mission Hills, 1-0 beat Tesoro 13-10

Next 10: St. Augustine, Valhalla, Ramona, Misson Bay, Grossmont, Carlsbad, Francis Parker, El Capitan, Madison, Lincoln.

After the jump, the 619 Sports ballot from Week 2:

619 Sports Prep Top-10 Ballot:

  1. Oceanside
  2. La Costa Canyon
  3. Escondido
  4. Vista
  5. Cathedral Catholic
  6. Valhalla
  7. Scripps Ranch
  8. Helix
  9. Eastlake
  10. Lincoln

Some thoughts: I had overlooked Vista in week one’s poll, but no longer after their thrashing of Mira Mesa.  Scripps Ranch rose a spot with Clay shining in a big win over Poway, one of the more impressive wins of the opening weekend.  I was the only person to put a vote in for Lincoln, and they did nothing to disappoint with a 63-14 smashing of Long Beach Cabrillo.
