Shawne Merriman’s ongoing legal struggle with Tila Tequila led to some inadvertent humor in the Chargers’ locker room on Wednesday, when he needed to call his lawyer to find out if he could speak about their relationship. Listen:

Shawne: “Well, we all have friends, even if they’re not players or people in the spotlight, everyday people have friends where they have to make a judgment and a call in that situation. Has anybody else had a friend in that situation, be honest? What do you do? That’s a call where you have to make the best decision possible at the time.”

Shawne: “(sigh) I don’t know if I’ll get in trouble for this one…let me text my lawyer real quick.”

A: “No, she’s not my girlfriend but I did consider her a friend though.”
