In a year where San Diego Section is brimming with Division I level talent, Mission Bay’s Dillon Baxter may be the best of all.  The do-it-all superstar of the Bucanneers is headed to USC after early graduation in December.  He’ll be playing QB tonight against Point Loma, and we’ll have complete coverage on 619 Sports, from live tweets during the game on our Twitter feed, to a complete postgame wrapup with interviews from the field.

619 Sports’ Dave Palet caught up with Dillon this week for a one-on-one interview:

Q: Who has been the most important person in your life?

A: My mom has been the most important person in my life. I’ve always played a lot of sports growing up and it was my mother who took time to drive me all my travel baseball and basketball games.  She’s always been the one to support me.

Q: How good is this year’s Mission Bay team?

A: We’re pretty good all around.  Our defense is strong at the linebacker and defensive back and on offense our line gives me time to run or get the ball into the hands of our talented wide receivers.

Q: You play 3 different offensive position for Mission Bay, do you have a favorite position?

A: Although I play mostly quarterback now, my favorite position is running back.

Dillon talks about a childhood accident, where he’ll start at USC and the players in San Diego he’d pay to watch after the jump:

Q: You lead San Diego in scoring and have had games where you’ve combined for almost 600.  Do you get caught up in statistics?

A: I don’t think about stats at all.  I have Coach Wilson on our staff who comes up to me after games to let me know how I did.  All I care about is winning and doing the best for my team.

Q: What is it like being Dillon Baxter, the football player?

A: It’s hard to explain, two days before each game I get butterflies.  I get hyped before the game but when the game starts I’m ready and know it takes more than one person for us to have success.

Q: You’ve been chosen to play in the Army All-American Game, how does it feel to be recognized as one of the top players in the nation?

A: It feels good to know as one of the top player in the nation. I’m excited to play for my family and proud to represent San Diego.

Q: There are so many talented players in the San Diego area.  If your Friday nights were free, who would you pay to see play?

A: I like to watch speed, so Lincoln is the team I would watch.  Victor Dean and Davon Dunn are both very talented and exciting.

dillon baxterQ: What great football players are you most compared to?

A: For as long as I can remember the two names people have been comparing me to are Reggie Bush (Helix) and Marcus Allen (Lincoln)

Q: If you weren’t a football player, what would you be doing?

A: When I’m done playing football I want to open my own business.  I’m not sure what kind of business yet but if I weren’t going to college I would be looking into being a business owner.

Q: What’s the one thing about Dillon Baxter that people don’t know?

A: When I was five years old I got hit by a car while riding a bike.  I was on the ground for an hour and half but after the ambulance came to check me out I got up and walked home.

Q: You’ve chosen to play college football at USC, was picking the right school a tough choice?

A: I knew USC was the school for me since I was in ninth grade.  I’ve since developed a very good relationship with the coaches and can’t wait to get there.  I plan on graduating from high school in December to start my college experience early.

Q: What position will you play for Pete Carroll at USC?

A: I’ve been told they plan to use me as a tailback or in the slot.  I think my best chance for starting as a freshman will be in the slot.
