Cafardo, the author, essentially writes a message board post which is attempting to pass itself off as analysis. Most of the two pages on AGon is devoted to describing how great he would look in a Boston uniform, but pretty much ignores how Boston would move either the salaries of Ortiz or Lowell and despite being familiar with the Boston system doesn't put forth anyone for whom the Padres would get in return.

While no one disagrees AGon would help the Red Sox how they would move either one of those two salaries and the type of package that it would take for the Padres to do such a deal are the two overwhelming questions.

Its fun and interesting to write and speculate about trades, but deals in todays MLB are principally about prospects and money; and unless any article is willing to focus on those two subjects it merits no deeper thought than two guys talking about their fantasy teams.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to finish my article on how the Padres are going to get Albert Pujols to replace AGon once this trade goes down as Mr. Cafardo has pointed out….

Its a much different scenario than what they were experiencing with Jake Peavy. You have a much better argument talking about they could trade him to Boston next year, when contracts like Mike Lowell and David Ortiz come off of their books
