While the Aztecs escaped Jenny Craig Pavilion with a 69-62 overtime win against host USD, the battle at point guard ended as a draw. Toreros’ senior Brandon Johnson pushed himself for 42 minutes, scoring 21 points on 6-13 shooting with a steal, rebound and assist, and three turnovers. Aztecs’ junior D.J. Gay, guarding and being guarded by Johnson, pushed himself for 41 minutes, scoring a career-high 22 points on 6-14 shooting, with an assist, no rebounds, no steals and two turnovers. Both hit 4-8 three pointers in a shooter’s duel.
