A thrilling city championship saw SDSU beat USD in overtime, but this looks like a year when both schools can be winners.  Craig and Chris talk about how both teams could have great seasons in very different ways:

Couple of things: First, I think we'll be seeing New Mexico join UNLV in the top 25 next week. They had a big win over Cal, and they're undefeated as well.

Second, why is it that Lon Kruger has managed to gel his UNLV team that has just as many transfers and freshmen playing as the Aztecs so much faster? I understand the injury impediment, but I think it's being thrown around as too much of a crutch. Granted, the defense is coming together quite nicely, but on the offensive end, they STILL look lost and clueless far too often, particularly against the zone......and let's face it, Steve Fisher teams on the Mesa have NEVER been exactly adept at playing against a zone defense.

Third, if this team waits another couple of months, as Craig suggested, to get their act together, it'll be far too late. If this team has any aspirations on making it to March Madness (and no, I'm NOT talking about the NIT or the CBI), then they need to pull it together NOW! Without some big OOC wins to post on the resume, they will be left on the outside looking in once again come March.... unless you're willing to put all of your eggs in the MWC Tournament basket, which I'm certainly not going to do. So far UNLV and New Mexico--hell even USD has a stronger at-large argument than the Aztecs! Having a strong conference season alone will not do it. Gotta build that resume NOW, because otherwise the selection committee will not be impressed.
