619 Sports is your home for San Diego Sockers coverage.  Starting today and each following week during the season, we’ll bring you closer to the team and the players with 1-on-1 interviews and game previews, in addition to our in-game and postgame coverage.  And the best is yet to come!

This week, the Sockers put their 5-0 record (4-0 PASL-Pro) on the line when they play host to the Denver Dynamite (0-2) at the Del Mar Arena on Saturday night.  Kickoff is set for 6:15pm.  It’s the second meeting of the season between these two teams, the Sockers having beaten Denver 12-6  in Colorado on November 14th.  Paul Wright led San Diego with two goals and two assists in that game, one of 4 Sockers who found the back of the net twice.

The Sockers have a blend of youth and veteran experience, almost all with deep San Diego ties.  A pair of SDSU alums are making big plays up front for San Diego.  25-year-old Kraig Chiles leads the Sockers with 9 goals, while 35-year-old Aaron Susi is tied for second with 6 goals.

aaron susiAaron Susi joined 619 Sports before Sockers practice to discuss a career that’s taken him far and wide.  Susi’s gone from the MLS and the outdoor game to a spot with last year’s PASL champions in Stockton.  Now, Aaron is providing veteran savvy as well as a potent scoring and play-making touch as a striker for San Diego:

Catch the Sockers in action this Saturday (12/5) against the Denver Dynamite at the Del Mar Arena, and participate in the Sockers Holiday Food and Toy Drive.  The first 100 fans to bring a canned good or toy (appropriate for boys age 10-22) will receive a free Sockers T-Shirt!  All proceeds benefit the St. Innocent’s Orphanage in Tijuana.  The Sockers will personally visit the orphanage and deliver the toys and food in time for Christmas.  For tickets: 866-799-GOAL or visit the Sockers’ website.
