It’s the middle of the offseason, and a snap in anger is months away from being taken. This, my friends, is when the Chargers excel. In the realm of preseason prognostications and pundits’ picks, the Chargers are a popular choice. SI’s Peter King recently issued his first power rankings for 2010-2011, and the Bolts were the top team in the AFC and second only to the Packers in the NFL.
Are the early expectations warranted for a 13-3 team returning 20 starters? Or should a team filled with playoff disappointments be ranked lower until they prove themselves more worthy? And what effect (if any) do these early bouquets have on the mindset of the players?
