A proactive move by the Mountain West Conference may help fortify the BCS hopefuls against a raid from mega-conferences like the Pac 10 and Big 12. A Monday board of directors meeting is expected to result in the MWC offering inclusion to Boise State University, and the Broncos are expected to accept. Boise State’s powerhouse football program would add yet another top team to a conference which is already loaded with TCU, BYU and Utah.
SI.com’s Stewart Mandel thinks it’s a natural pairing for Boise State and the MWC to come together. But if the Pac 10 or Big 12 tries to lure Utah, TCU and/or BYU away, is there anything which will keep them from bolting? Could the Broncos ride to the rescue only to find an empty fort when they get there?
