The San Diego Chargers released four players on Monday, most notably embattled safety Kevin Ellison.
The second-year safety was arrested in Redondo Beach and charged with possession of 100 Vicodin pills in May. Coach Norv Turner subsequently barred him from mini-camp.
Ellison saw starting time as a rookie, but was put on notice when the Chargers selected speedy safety Darrell Stuckey out of Kansas in April’s draft.
A big hitter, Ellison is not known for his speed. His arrest apparently sealed his fate with the Chargers.
The Chargers also released defensive tackle Ian Scott, fullback Cory Jackson and wide receiver Jordyn Jackson.
