The San Diego Chargers opened their first full-squad practice of training camp in expected fashion, with holdouts Marcus McNeill, Shawne Merriman and Vincent Jackson failing to report on time. First-round draft pick Ryan Mathews also remains unsigned, although the NC Times’ Scott Bair reports a deal could be done as soon as tomorrow to bring the rookie running back into the fold.
Regardless of who is in or out of camp, quarterback Philip Rivers intends to make the most of the opportunity presented in 2010. Speaking to the San Diego sports media, Rivers discussed the potential distraction of multiple holdouts, his adjustment to new veteran left tackle Tra Thomas, and how McNeill’s absence won’t cause Philip to lose any sleep.
