Tejada Muy Bueno for Padres

Of all of the things that have gone perfectly for the Padres in 2010, add this to the list: veteran Miguel Tejada, added just before the trade deadline from Baltimore, has provided much more than the Friars could have hoped for.

First and foremost, for an aging infielder who wasn’t considered nimble enough any longer to play shortstop for the last-place Orioles, Tejada has fit-in brilliantly at short in San Diego. He has also hit nearly .300, popped a couple of homers and added eight doubles.

No longer near the level of his 2002 AL Most Valuable Player season in Oakland, Tejada has nonetheless settled in nicely with the Padres. As hell tells 619Sports.net, he’s as happy to be with the Padres as they are happy to have him:

you guys doubted how effective this guy would be...and you were emphatic about it. 'Specially you, Craig. But I knew he would be the last guy you, would have to worry about. Same thing with Ludwick. I dont think we should worry about them come Sept.

The guys Im worried about are Venable, Headley, Correia and LeBlanc.

I won't deny, I thought Tejada would be No Bueno, not Muy Bueno. I still wonder if some ball's going to get through him in a key game...in the playoffs. But he's been reinvigorated by the playoff chase and is in good shape. One thing he said--and then followed through with, more importantly--on arrival was that he thought Petco Park was good for him, because he would not try to hit HRs and would stay with a line drive swing. He's done that and is hitting near .300.
