Chargers head coach Norv Turner was about as resolute as he could be in the opening comments of his end-of-year press conference.  Turner says there is a Super Bowl-worthy team in San Diego with a bright future.  In these selected comments from Turner’s press conference, Norv talks about what went wrong on Sunday against the Jets, whether or not his team was “tight”, and how disappointing it was to see the Chargers self-destruct with needless penalties:

Chargers In A New York State Of Mind

Post image for Chargers In A New York State Of Mind

by Jeff Creps on January 14, 2010

After coming in for three practices during their bye-week, the Chargers were back in pads on Wednesday gearing up for this weekend’s matchup with the New York Jets.

It has been well chronicled  that the Jets are coming into this Divisional round matchup with possibly the toughest defense left in contention.  They are led by All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, who finished second behind Charles Woodson for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and a dominating set of linebackers.

While Coach Norv Turner admitted that he hates throwing around the term “shut down corner” Revis is one guy he would make an exception for:  “He just goes after it, and he plays every play like this game is meant to be played.  He’s very impressive.”

The Jets have been a very versatile team this year, changing their focus based on the opponent.  While the Chargers will look to control the ball through the run, protecting quarterback Philip Rivers and maintaining the pocket will be a key that Coach Turner knows will decide the game.

For Chargers Coach Norv Turner, the 2009 season has been anything but a breeze (see: September/October). But now his team has won 11 in a row and is one of the favorites to go to the Super Bowl. Does that mean Turner can enjoy the ride — even a little? 619Sports.net wonders, and Norv responds:

ShareIn what felt like little more than a mid-season walk through, the Chargers practiced on Wednesday facing one distinct difference.
For the first time all season, they’re practicing with no knowledge of who their next opponent will be.
Although any team would gladly take an extra week of rest after a tough 16-game stretch, it must be [...]

ShareIt’s amazing what four straight wins and three straight Denver losses can do for the mood around Chargers Park on a Monday afternoon.  Now tied with the Broncos at 6-3, and having beaten back two of the over-inflated “beasts of the East” the past two weeks, the Chargers are finally walking the path they all [...]

ShareIn 2007 Chris Chambers was a needed pickup for the San Diego Chargers’ offense: a big-play receiver that took pressure off Antonio Gates and made acrobatic catches when needed.  With an easy smile, great footwork and reliable hands, Chambers fit into the offense and locker room seamlessly.  The trade with Miami, costing San Diego a [...]

Chargers In An Old Familiar Hole

ShareThey swore it wouldn’t happen this year.  They told us throughout the summer, again in training camp, and even more in the preseason: this was the year the Chargers would get out of the gates fast.  The focus would be there, the talent would come together…no more stumbling starts.
Fast forward to the start of Week [...]

Chargers Rest…So Should You

October 10, 2009

ShareIn the middle of the locker room, sitting on a simple 6-foot card table, was a regular every-day cardboard box. Standing perhaps a first-down away was backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst holding a bouncy ball, about half the size of a basketball.
The idea was to bounce the ball on the carpeted floor and have it land [...]
