Saturday, March 13th, 2010. The greatest day in SDSU sports history? What about San Diego sports history?
On how many other days could you say that San Diego saw TWO college basketball conference tournament championships, and a North American championship for the Sockers? Craig and Chris were there to cover it all for you on 619 Sports…here, they discuss the meaning behind such a great day in our town’s history:
Dick Vitale wouldn’t think too much of it. Nor would any of the other talking heads in college basketball. San Diego State 76, Drake 73. In overtime. In Des Moines, Iowa. On an otherwise lazy and quiet Tuesday evening.
But make no mistake Aztec fans. This victory was a big one. Down six with four minutes to play. On the road. Solid opponent. A young team coming together down the stretch to force overtime. And then winning in overtime.
Not easy to do in college basketball. The second time this season that Steve Fisher’s team has won an overtime game away from home. Games where every play counts, and nobody in the arena is counting on you to make the plays.
Due credit should be given. But will it be? Or put another way: has San Diego State done enough during this non-conference season to put itself in a position to grab an at-large berth for the NCAA Tournament come March?

Bad news: if you want to see the Bolts, it’ll take awhile to get here. The San Diego State women’s basketball team, carrying its first national-ranking in 14 years, [...]
ShareIt’s a bit early, of course, to crown champions in college basketball. But in their home opener Tuesday night against cross-town rival USD, the San Diego State women’s basketball gave a glimpse of what they’re capable of.
Dominating the Toreros in every single category, the Aztecs rolled to a 79-52 victory that wasn’t nearly as close as [...]
ShareBeing as you San Diego State sports fans say you don’t go to games because the product has been poor over the last decade or two, what’s going to be your excuse to not attend the Aztecs’ women’s basketball games this season?
Inconvenienced? Sorry, that won’t work since SDSU plays its games on campus at Viejas [...]
ShareThe world of sports is full of things that don’t make sense. Games are played and won and lost, but certainly not always won by the teams that are supposed to win them or lost by the teams that are supposed to lose them.
Unless you’re San Diego State.
If you’re the Aztecs football team, and you [...]
