Bring On The Mountain!!

Post image for Bring On The Mountain!!

by Chris Ello on December 31, 2009

The final score of the final game of the decade was San Diego State 89, Pomona-Pitzer 54.

To SDSU Coach Steve Fisher there have been more important scores. They include: San Diego State 63, Arizona 46…Brigham Young 81, Arizona State 68…New Mexico 86, California 78…UNLV 76, Louisville 71…Utah 60, Illinois 58.

“You look at some of the wins our conference has posted during this non-conference season,” said Fisher after his team completed its non-conference slate by pulling away from the Division 1-AA Sagehens in the second half Thursday and improving its record to 11-3.

“We all know how good of a conference we’re in. Maybe this will be the year that we get three and maybe four teams into the NCAA Tournament.”

Had that been the case a year ago, SDSU would have gone dancing. But it wasn’t, and with only two Mountain West teams chosen for the NCAA’s, the Aztecs had to settle for the NIT despite a school-record 26 victories.

Chargers Need To Consolidate Their Break

Post image for Chargers Need To Consolidate Their Break

by Craig on November 12, 2009

The Chargers managed a memorable Escape From New York last week, and many on the team have called it a stepping stone victory.  All well and good, but before the Bolts get used to the view from atop that stone, they better realize their next step will be a doozy.  If the Chargers don’t back up their great road win with a home victory over the Eagles, then what did they really accomplish?

Norv Turner has been around the NFL long enough to not get overly excited about pulling out a “must-win” in Week 9:

It’s like a tennis player who breaks his opponent’s serve and then gets broken right back in his own service game.  The Chargers are a very modest 2-2 at home, not the typical stamp of a contender.  A third home loss would be both devastating and revealing.  And yet, with a very tough Eagles team coming to town, Sunday’s bout is far from a gimme.

Turner talked about the Chargers’ home stumbles:

Here more from Turner, Philip Rivers and Shawne Merriman after the jump:

ShareThere’s an old saying that was repeated recently by Don Draper on the amazing show “Mad Men”.  Talking about a controversial bid to tear down Penn Station and replace it with Madison Square Garden, Draper told his client: “If you don’t like what people are saying about you, change the conversation.”
Hearing that Padres’ CEO Jeff [...]

An Ode To Cabrera

July 7, 2009

ShareCabrera has jumped far above his expectations in 2009There has been plenty to discuss, dissect, criticize and complain about with the Padres in 2009. The season started with an ownership change and little hope on the field, and despite better-than-expected play at certain rare points, the first half of the campaign has largely gone as [...]

All About the Aztecs

March 16, 2009

ShareThe question, as far as I’m concerned is, how do Lorrenzo Wade, Richie Williams and Kyle Spain want to be remembed?
Throughout this season, the trio — along with center Ryan Amoroso and backup guard Matt Thomas — have been referred to on many occasions as the best Senior class in San Diego State basketball history.
The [...]
