In the middle of the locker room, sitting on a simple 6-foot card table, was a regular every-day cardboard box. Standing perhaps a first-down away was backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst holding a bouncy ball, about half the size of a basketball.
Chargers Players (And Fans) Need To Focus On Someting Other Than Football During The Bye Week. This Should Do.
The idea was to bounce the ball on the carpeted floor and have it land in the box. After a shot or two went awry, Whitehurst gave way to a teammate…and so on, until a crowd of a dozen or so had gathered around the jeer the contestants every time they missed.
In another corner of the spacious oasis…a couple of cornerbacks peered into their cell phones, texting or checking messages or perhaps even playing some hand-held video game — no tweets, mind you, because those are illegal on the premises of the Chargers’ practice facility.
Across the way, Antonio Gates was talking about visiting his kids and the rest of his family this weekend. Kevin Burnett said he was looking forward to getting as far away from football as possible.

For SDSU: New season, Old result

I’m an Aztec, have been ever since I went to school at SDSU in the early 80’s. Furthermore, I’m the radio color commentator for Aztec football. I know a lot of the kids, and like all the ones that I know.
I’ve met Brady Hoke, and hung out with the new Aztec football coach. Like him a lot (and I’m pretty sure you’d like him a lot, too). Al Borges, the new offensive coordinator, and Rocky Long, the new defensive coordinator, are both solid guys.
I root for the Red And Black. I bleed red (and black). Every fall a new season comes along, and with it comes a ray of hope. This year, with Hoke and his crack staff in place, even more hope than usual.
And then…the season actually begins. And though a lot seems new and exciting, the results are old and predictable. Here we go again.
