After a thrilling Aztecs win in Thursday’s game one of the cross-town rivalry, the Toreros fought back in a tough pitchers duel to record the 2-0 victory on Friday.

USD got a big game out of top lefty pitcher Sammy Solis in the game-two victory of the “Black and Blue Series” that has thus far lived up to its billing.

“We needed to bounce back — that was three loses in a row,” Solis said after the win. “I think our team needed a little spark, a little jump start, and I gave it to them fortunately.”

The Aztecs were shut out for the first time since their final game of 2008, a 1-0 loss to Utah in the Mountain West Conference tournament.

Long Good Day

April 10, 2009

ShareI’m gonna crash early tonight after announcing a doubleheader at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Aztecs beat UC Davis twice today, 9-4 and 5-3.

March 4, 2009

Share I was torn over what to do with myself on Tuesday night.  UCSD was playing a basketball playoff doubleheader at RIMAC, and the Aztecs were taking on Cal State Fullerton at Tony Gwynn Stadium.  The chance to help call the game on goaztecs.com had me leading toward SDSU…but then Ted Mendenhall dropped a note [...]
