2009.  Did you love this year?  Unless you are a Park View Little Leaguer or a foreclosure specialist, the answer is probably no.  But 2009 was memorable in more ways than one, and in the world of San Diego sports, there were enough great/important moments to fill a pair of Top 10 lists.  That’s what we’ve done, as the creators of 619Sports.Net, Craig Elsten and Chris Ello, have laid down their Top 10 San Diego sports moments from 2009.

KGTV Channel 10’s sports director Ben Higgins is in Williamsport, PA covering the Park View All-Stars in the Little League World Series.  He agreed to write about his experience covering the kids for 619 Sports:

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, PA

The Little League World Series is the stuff of dreams. I’m sure the kids are having a great time, too, but I’m talking about TV reporters.  This 2-week, over-the-top extravaganza of youth baseball excess is a dream come true for someone like me, who needs to feed the television beast.

Over a 24-hour period, I counted 11 different stories we sent back to air on 10 different newscasts for Channel 10. By we, I mean myself and our Chief Photographer, Jeff LeValley, who is joining me on a trip to Williamsport, PA, for the second time in four years.

For some reason, when a local team reaches the pinnacle of Little League baseball, we as a community can’t help but go bonkers for a few days. Continue Reading →
