Anybody Want To Go Dancing?

Post image for Anybody Want To Go Dancing?

by Chris Ello on March 7, 2010

Their dancing shoes are on. Now the question is whether or not the SDSU men’s and women’s basketball teams can earn themselves a spot out on the floor.

Finishing their regular seasons in style on Saturday, the Aztec men eased past Air Force in Colorado Springs, 61-42, as Kawhi Leonard (right) and Malcolm Thomas each scored 18 points. Steve Fisher’s men’s team figures to have the better opportunity, though the Aztecs came within two points of winning the MWC Postseason Tournament last season and were snubbed despite having the nation’s highest RPI among non-qualifying tournament teams.

20 Wins For SDSU After Edging Utah

Post image for 20 Wins For SDSU After Edging Utah

by Jeff Creps on February 21, 2010

Utah always seems to bring a well-balanced game against SDSU. Saturday night was no exception.

After narrowly escaping a late charge in a 70-68 January win over Utah, the Aztecs were again forced to provide late game heroics in Saturday’s 68-61 victory.

The Aztecs (20-7; 9-4 MWC) led 14-4 early on, but gave up a 14-4 Utah run that tied the game at 18. But SDSU  answered with to take a 36-26 lead into halftime on a run highlighted by a Kawhi Leonard dunk.  SDSU Head Coach Steve Fisher discussed how pleased he was with the way his team started the game, and how the Aztecs were able to whether the Utes storm ultimately winning them the game.

ShareIf you’ve followed Aztecs basketball, for a long while or just a little, you knew that the shot somehow was going to go in.
Never mind that Utah’s Carlon Brown was only a step past half court and double-teamed along the sideline when he let it go. Once again, the SDSU men’s basketball team had frittered away a seemingly [...]

Like an NFL quarterback with multiple weapons to throw to, Aztecs point guard D.J. Gay has quite a few options himself when he brings the ball up the court. He did an excellent job Saturday night of getting everybody involved as SDSU surprisingly ran away from Arizona, 63-46, to with its fifth-straight and improve to 8-2.

ShareThere went Kawhi Leonard, grabbing a rebound in traffic, fighting off a foul, and making a backhand layup. There was Malcolm Thomas, angling his athletic body between defenders for an offensive rebound and stick-back.
There went Billy White, reaching in to make a steal, racing the length of the floor on the dribble at 6-foot-8 and [...]
