With a smashing three homer performance at the plate and a former Little League hero coming back to torment his hometown team, the 22nd ranked Oklahoma Sooners capped a four-game sweep of San Diego State with a 5-2 win at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Sunday.
The Aztecs’ offense was stymied by Palomar College transfer Bobby Shore. A former Little League World Series star with Oceanside in 2001, Shore returned to San Diego and held the Aztecs hitless into the fifth inning. Matt Parker’s double with two outs in the fifth broke up the no-hit bid, but Shore stayed in to work seven innings, allowing just five hits and one run, with five strikeouts against just one walk.
“I thought he showed a lot of composure, lot of poise,” said Aztecs head coach Tony Gwynn, “for a local kid coming back home you know he wanted to throw the ball well, and he did.”
