Will SDSU find its way into the NCAA Tournament this year?  College basketball Hall of Fame writer Frank Burlison says yes!  Burlison, longtime writer for the Long Beach Press Telegram and a man who is close with every coach and program in Southern California, joins 619 Sports to talk about each of our local teams.

Can the Mountain West get four teams into the NCAAs while the mighty Pac 10 gets just one?  Will Kawhi Leonard be a one-and-done player, off to the NBA (at 8:47)?  And what about Bill Grier (at 13:15) and Chris Carlson (at 17:15), two quality coaches who are struggling this year at USD and UCSD respectively?  Burlison covers it all with Craig in this college hoops podcast!

Wednesday night at Qualcomm Stadium, the third-place team in the MWC outworked, out-schemed, out-coached, and outplayed their opponent from the “mighty”, BCS-worthy Pac-10. Spotting Cal a 14-0 lead, the University of Utah never panicked, scoring 27 unanswered points in a 37-27 victory at the Poinsettia Bowl.

ShareEvery football coach talks about them. So do most pundits. Turnovers. Don’t hear quite as much about them in hoops.
Guess what? They decide games on the hardwood, too.

Like an NFL quarterback with multiple weapons to throw to, Aztecs point guard D.J. Gay has quite a few options himself when he brings the ball up the court. Craig is excited for this turnaround in Aztecs football, while Chris notes some of the obstacles that will be in Brady Hoke’s path as he tries to return the SDSU program to relevance. How will he be able to regenerate fan interest? What about the TV deal? And will the true blue chippers ever agree to stay in the MWC when they could be playing in the Pac 10 or Big 12? Enjoy the Quiet

February 13, 2009

Share That’s what I’m doing right now.  The TV’s off, the neighborhood is quiet, the pug is softly snoring on the couch.  Rain is on the way, but at this moment it’s just gray and dark.  San Diego’s sports world is quiet right now as well, but the storm is coming.  Pitchers and catchers are [...]
