Vince Young got flattened on a blindside.  Shawne Merriman got double-teamed, took a cheap-shot, and his knee has never been the same since.  In 2007, the Chargers and Titans played twice and both games were physical battles that came down to the final quarter.

Now, with the Titans clinging to fading hope for a miracle playoff push, and the Chargers one win away from securing the #2 seed in the AFC playoff bracket, these two teams meet again in Nashville.  Think anyone has forgotten what happened last time?

Shaun Phillips certainly hasn’t:

 

If you’re a nervous nellie Chargers fan, then Friday’s game should have you in cold sweats.  After all, it was a road game against a very physical team (the Raiders) that opened the 2009 campaign.  15 weeks later, there are still key Chargers who have yet to return to the field as a result of the injuries suffered in that game.  Nick Hardwick may finally get back to action on Friday…just in time to face the equally-if-not-more-physical Titans.
