With one week left in the high school regular season, there are three 9-0 teams in our 619 Sports/NC Times Top 10 Poll, and four unbeatens.  The logjam at the top has been unchanged for weeks, with Oceanside & LCC receiving the same number of #1 votes and hanging next to each other 1-2 in the poll.  Valley Center’s resounding 45-7 loss on Friday sent it tumbling in the poll, while Escondido’s second straight loss almost dropped them out altogether.  Mission Bay, Vista and Valhalla, meanwhile, are rising.  Without further ado…

Here’s this week’s Top 10 (first place votes in paretheses):

  1. Oceanside (17), 9-0
  2. La Costa Canyon (2), 9-0
  3. Eastlake, 7-0-2
  4. Cathedral Catholic, 8-1
  5. Mission Bay, 9-0
  6. Ramona, 8-1
  7. Vista, 7-2
  8. Valley Center, 8-1
  9. Escondido, 6-2-1
  10. Valhalla, 7-2

Also receiving votes: Mission Hills, Francis Parker, Brawley, Madison, Rancho Bernardo, Chula Vista

There are still a couple of league titles to be decided, with rivalries and revenge games on the schedule for Friday.  After the jump, we reveal this week’s selections for the 619 Sports Prep Games of the Week, along with the 619 Sports Top 10 ballot: Continue Reading →

An entertaining season of high school football in San Diego Section is moving into the stretch run, and four 8-0 teams dot the 619 Sports/NCTimes Prep Top-10 poll.  But as Michael Buffer would say, “somebody’s O  has to go!”  And this week, with two Top-4 teams colliding for Valley League supremacy, an undefeated season is guaranteed to come to an end.

#1 Oceanside (8-0) will travel to #4 Valley Center (8-0) on Friday night, our 619 Sports Prep Game of the Week.  The Pirates have won 11 straight and are unbeaten in their last 33 games.  The Jaguars have won 12 in a row, but remember well their last loss, a 49-21 defeat in Oceanside last November 7th.  364 days later Valley Center gets a chance for revenge on its home field.

We will also be at two other key games around the county on Friday night: “The Holy War” in the Eastern League between St. Augustine (6-2, 2-1) and #5 Cathedral Catholic (7-1, 2-1), and the showdown for the top of the Grossmont South League between Valhalla (6-2, 3-0) and Steele Canyon (5-2-1, 2-0-1).  Follow our Twitter feed and check in throughout the day for full Prep Friday coverage!

Here’s this week’s Top 10 (first place votes in parentheses):

  2. La Costa Canyon (2), 8-0
  3. Eastlake, 6-0-2
