The slogan at the front door of the Gonzalez Sports Academy in Chula Vista spells out the vision of the training complex:

“Good Athletes Are Born, Great Athletes Are Made.”

Adrian Gonzalez was born a good athlete.  To be made great, Adrian needed to drive out of the South Bay and out to La Jolla or elsewhere in North County to train.  There were no premier facilities in Chula Vista to develop great athletes.

619 Sports is teaming up with Matt Vasgersian’s 3rd annual Texas Hold’em Charity Poker Tournament to give you a chance for glory on the felt and on the web!  The tournament, taking place this Friday (11/13) at the Hall of Champions, will benefit Tender Loving Canines and the Champion Sports Academy.  Players will be rubbing elbows with local athletes and celebrities while battling in a no-limit Texas Hold’em tournament.  The entry fee is $200, with some terrific prizes, a silent auction of great baseball memorabilia and more, well worth it for a fun night’s entertainment and a great cause.

But for being a regular follower of 619 Sports, you get a chance to win your seat in the tourney from us!  We have two seats to give away in our Aces Or Rags Contest, and here’s how the contest will work: Continue Reading →
