Maybe trading Woody Williams to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ray Lankford finally caught up with him. Kevin Towers always used to say that was the one trade he would have loved to have back.

Wonder if new Padres owner Jeff Moorad will ever feel the same way about letting Towers go, which he did prior to Friday night’s season-ending series opener against the San Francisco Giants?

Maybe it has crossed your mind over the last couple of seasons, and maybe you even dreamed about it. After all, there are many in San Diego who have pointed the finger at Towers over the years every time the Friars have fallen.

But now that it has actually happened, now that baseball’s longest-tenured General Manager has actually been given the heave-ho, it really does feel like a shocker.

Lavigne Leaving SDSU

619 Sports learned earlier today that SDSU junior right-hander Tyler Lavigne has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, agreeing to a minor-league deal worth a reported $18,000.  Lavigne was selected in the 50th and final round of the 2009 MLB Draft, leading most to speculate that he would return for his senior season and lead the Aztecs as their ace starter.  Instead Tyler has decided to begin his pro career and end his time as a collegiate student-athlete.  Why?  And what now for Tony Gwynn’s Aztecs, particularly on the mound?  Who will take the reins as the staff ace for 2010?  And what are Craig and Chris thinking NOW about the baseball team’s chances of improving from their regional appearance this year?  Find out when you listen to this Lavigne Is Leaving Podcast:
