Black, Hoyer Ready For Season To Start

Padres manager Bud Black announced the 2010 lineup and starting pitching rotation on Wednesday.

Well — sort of.

At a Padres luncheon at the San Diego Hall of Champions, Black and general manager Jed Hoyer talked with fans about offseason moves, keeping Adrian Gonzalez, the start of Spring Training and what the lineup would look like if the season started today.

Black also noted that pitcher Chris Young appears healthy and ready for Spring Training.

“Chris Young is feeling great,” Black said of the starter, who missed much of the 2009 season with a shoulder injury. “He’s throwing off the mound. He’s going to be ready for full activity in the spring. We’re looking forward to him bouncing back.”

Black expects Kevin Correia, newcomer Jon Garland and Clayton Richard to round out the top four of the rotation while second-year fire-baller Mat Latos will compete with Sean Gallagher, Tim Stauffer, Wade Leblanc and Cesar Ramos for the fifth spot.

ShareSo the Padres closed out the 2009 baseball season this past weekend against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park. And, being as it was the final series of the year and all, they called it Fan Appreciation Weekend.

I understand the reasoning behind the whole thing. The idea, of course, being  to thank the fans who supported this team throughout [...]

ShareMaybe trading Woody Williams to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ray Lankford finally caught up with him. Kevin Towers always used to say that was the one trade he would have loved to have back.
Wonder if new Padres owner Jeff Moorad will ever feel the same way about letting Towers go, which he did prior [...]

ShareAlbert Pujols thinks Will Venable has a lot to learn about the game of baseball.  Chris and Craig think it’s Pujols who overreacted to Sunday’s scrape at Petco Park.  It’s one of three topics in our Monday baseball grab bag:

Padres Would Like Your Attention

August 14, 2009

This is the Padres’ ironic lot: the curtain is coming down on them right as the team is getting their act together. While San Diego turns away, their baseball club is just now showing some stick, some speed, a collection of interesting arms and an identity all their own. Nobody may notice, but the Padres are going to be worth watching down the stretch.

A Homegrown Rockpile

July 18, 2009

ShareFriday night’s game between the Rockies and the Padres at Petco Park brought forth an interesting mini-discussion between the Channel 4 announcers, Mark Neely and Mark Grant.  Grant noted that the ENTIRE Rockies lineup, from pitcher to RF, was drafted and developed in the Colorado farm system.  Neely then tried to pump up the Padres’ [...]
